Member Show

Member Show Information -- On Saturday, December 2, we will open our Member Show in the gallery at the Delaplaine. At 2 pm there will be an Artist Talk. Cam will give a talk about the show and will offer tips for using the camera you always have with you. Our show opens officially with an informal reception in the gallery from 3-5 pm. There will not be food and drink, due to a large crowd expected for the Holiday Art Market that will be going on downtown. Come to enjoy the show on Saturday afternoon, then enjoy all the other First Saturday events going on downtown, including the lighted boats on Carroll Creek.

December Social Event

December Social Event -- On Wednesday, December 13, we will host a "Snappy Hour" from 6-7:30 pm in the gallery at the Delaplaine in lieu of our regular meeting. It is a private party, open to all members-in-good-standing and their guests. Come and view the show, engage in discussion about photography, and enjoy h'ors d'oeuvres, drinks, and sweet things. It is perfectly fine to bring your own alcohol if you wish, as we will be serving only water. Cups and ice will be on hand. Use the time before or after the event to stroll the creek or go out to dinner at one of our many wonderful restaurants in the area.

Snappy Hour

Wednesday, December 14.
From 5:45 - 7:15 pm, there will be food and drinks (even BYOB) set up for "Snappy Hour." It will not be a sit down meal, but rather appetizers, hors d'oeuvres, and holiday treats. Either before or after the social time (or both?), you can complete a photographic scavenger hunt along Carroll Creek. Tom Dorsz has agreed to put one together. So plan to come dressed to do the scavenger hunt along the creek, and drop in during "Snappy Hour" for some socializing with fellow friends and members. (Note: This will be an in-person event only, for members-in-good-standing, and not open for visitors.)

365 Project

Studies have shown that there are positive mental health benefits to engaging in a creative medium each day, whether it is painting or stitching or writing. But particularly with photography, taking camera in hand (or phone camera, for sure) and making an effort to see outside of ourselves for a little while, to "get in the zone" either indoors or out, can make a big difference in outlook. Couple that with the encouragement and inspiration from a group (namely us, the members of this club) and some outside accountability (posting the photo for all to see), and your engagement with this type of project will increase.

Now I know that not everyone will get outside for a photo walk every day, nor are you expected to. Just engaging with photography frequently, whether through photographing the interesting shadow patterns created on your wall on a sunny day, taking a selfie and using a new filter on your phone to give yourself a painted look, or sitting down at the computer to edit those photos from a trip you took back when we were able to travel -- whatever you choose to do, you are engaging with photography and getting out of your own head for a few minutes.

So, here goes. In order to make this project as accessible as possible, I have created a Zenfolio site just for it. Each day, you can upload a photo that you either took that day or that you edited on that day. That's it. Those are the photo "rules."

It's OK if you took a photo on January 5 and don't get around to uploading it to the January 5 folder until January 7. You won't turn into a pumpkin if it's not there by midnight. The point is that you did something with photography that day. Your "proof" to yourself and to others is the photo in the January 5 folder, regardless of when it shows up there.

It's OK to post the photos on the Click Facebook page, too, and we'll work out all the details of how we're going to post and present photos as the month progresses, but by the end of the month, we should be on a roll.

The January 13 meeting will be all about this project. Each week there will be new inspiration in the email blast to help you with ideas. It doesn't matter if you are late to the party or only participate once a week. Life is hard and complicated, so there are no penalties; just encouragement and hopefully motivation and inspiration.

Ready to Roll?

Here are the directions to the page of instructions for uploading your photo via a computer.

If you want to participate and just feel daunted about uploading the photos yourself, Carol Gregoire has offered to receive them from you. Just be sure she knows your name, the date you took the photo, and give a brief description, if desired. carolgregoire@yahoo.com

The website is clique365.zenfolio.com so you can take a look at the lone test cat sitting there now, waiting for company to fill up January 1.

Summer Picnic Cancelled

Mark your calendar on Sunday, August 18, for our summer picnic, to be held at Surreybrooke, a beautiful nursery and garden center in Middletown. It will be from 11 am - 2 pm at the pavilion. More info to follow, but this is a great time to bring family, enjoy the gardens, do some macro and flower photography, and share your favorite picnic foods.

Holiday Party

The annual holiday party is on December 12 at 7 pm at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center. Members have been sent an invitation and are encouraged to RSVP by the deadline. Please plan on attending this fun event where we socialize, view favorite photos from the year, have a great meal, and engage in a fun photo swap!

Member Show

The annual Member Show will be at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center for the month of December. All members in good standing are encouraged to submit one or two ready-to-hang photographs and offer them for sale. Information about the show has been emailed to all members. The reception for this show is Saturday, December 1, from 3-5 pm.

If you are going to submit some work for the show, please send Cam the title(s) of your photos, along with the price you would ask. The Delaplaine takes a commission on all sales: 20% for members of the Delaplaine, and 30% for non-members, so take that into consideration when pricing.

The Delaplaine wants all information by November 19 so that they may create a list of all the photos expected in the show. Therefore, I need all of your information by November 18. The photos to do not need to be ready by that date, however, just the information.

Sydney at the Delaplaine will create a list of all of the titles by photographer name. The list will be in the storage room where pieces for the next show are stored in numbered slots. She will also use the name, title, and price information that you send me to create the wall labels and the price lists for the show.

Prepare your ready-to-hang photo for delivery by attaching a card to the rear that includes your name, the title of the piece, the price, and your contact information (email, phone, website, etc.)

Between November 19 and 29, you may drop off your piece(s) at the Delaplaine, which is open most days from 9-5. Take your photos to the storage room, find the list of photographers, choose a slot number for your work, and then note on the clipboard which slots you chose. The slot numbers are written in black marker at the top of the slot. You may leave with work with or without packaging, depending on how it fits into the slots.

If you prefer, you may deliver your work the night that we hang the show, on November 29, beginning at 6:30. We will pull all work out of the storage room, lay it out along the walls, and decide which pieces hang well together. Once the order of the show is determined, the pieces are hung on the walls and the label information is applied. Help is always appreciated when hanging this show.

Photos for the Member Show

November is a busy time for the Camera Clique! You need information about our Member show, and we want to reach as many members as possible, especially if you are unable to come to the next meeting on November 8.

All members in good standing are invited to submit up to three framed photographs for the annual member show, which will hang at the Delaplaine during December. The images must be suitable for family viewing, as well as framed and wired in a manner that is acceptable for gallery showing. Please make sure that frames and mats are clean and that it has sturdy wiring in the back for hanging. Sawtooth hangers are not acceptable.

For each photo you submit, please label it on the back on a separate, taped card with your contact information and the title and price (unless it is NSF). Also, please indicate your preference for order of hanging: #1, #2, or #3. We will hang all #1's, unless for some reason it is not deemed acceptable, and try to get all #2's as well, depending on how many we receive.

Please send this same information in an email to Cam Miller (cam.miller@comcast.net) who will be using the info to create wall labels and a price list for the show. Name, email, phone number, Image #1 title and price, Image #2 title and price, and (if applicable) Image #3 title and price. {Note: The Delaplaine will retain a 30% commission on pieces sold, unless you are a member of the Delaplaine, for whom they will retain 20%, so price accordingly.} Please send this information to Cam no later than November 22.

Photos may be dropped off at the November 8 meeting, at the Delaplaine on Sunday, November 19 from 1-3 pm, or at the Hanging Party at the Delaplaine on Tuesday, November 28, at 6:30. We always need volunteers to help hang the show, so if you can stick around to help, we'd love to have you!

This show is an opportunity to showcase the talent we have in our club. The opening reception is Saturday, December 2, from 3-5 pm.

Any followup details and reminders about the member show will be in the club forum, so be sure to check it regularly. We look forward to a great show of our best work!
